St Paul’s, Harringay offers the special service of Choral Evensong, a rare treat amongst churches in Haringey, as well as the wider Church of England. Keep an eye on the weekly services list for details of the next Choral Evensong service.
What is Choral Evensong?
Anglican Evening Prayer was originally formed by combining the monastic offices of Vespers and Compline. While many churches now take their services from Common Worship, those churches with a choir will often offer Choral Evensong from the Book of Common Prayer because of the greater musical provision.
Choral Evensong, a beautifully sung service, is a tiny fragment of something else: it is the fragment of worship that is offered to God by Christian people every hour in every part of the world. When you come to Evensong it is as if you are dropping in on a conversation already in progress – a conversation between God and people which began long before we were born and will continue long after we have passed away.
